Every year, Charlotte hosts the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and for the last 19 years, the city has held a celebration for the sport, called Food Lion Speed Street, presented by Coca Cola. This year the event will be held in Uptown Charlotte from Thursday, May 23rd-Saturday, May 25th– Memorial Day weekend, with live music, food, vendors, NASCAR drivers and kid fun areas filling the streets. Speed Street is for all ages, and whether you’re a racing fanatic or just enjoy good music and good food, the event offers something for everyone.
The event will be kicked off on Thursday, May 23rd at 1:00, with appearances by some of the NASCAR drivers, including Ron Hornaday, Jr, Brennan Newberry and John Wes Townley at the Creative Loafing display. Then at 6:45 the concert series will begin at the Coca Cola Stage; Randy Houser, Jamie Johnson and Sister Hazel are just some of the fantastic musicians that will be performing over the course of the event. Also, Tony Stuart and Danica Patrick will grace the Coca Cola stage for a Q&A session on Saturday. If meeting NASCAR drivers or live music isn’t your thing, there will also be plenty of food and beverages to be consumed, racing memorabilia to be purchased, and a kids’ zone that children won’t want to leave. After three, fun-filled days, the weekend will draw to a close with one of the most awesome NASCAR races in the Sprint Cup series- the Coca-Cola 600. The 400 lap, 600 mile, test of endurance will begin at 6:00 PM on Sunday, May 26th, and will end by crowning another driver the champion of the famed race.
So come on out and have some fun, partying in the streets of Uptown Charlotte with some of the hottest stars in racing and music. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss!
