Swing Stage Painting: Is It Right for Your Project?
What is swing stage painting? If you’ve ever been walking around Uptown Charlotte or other cities with high-rise buildings, you’ve probably seen crews cleaning or painting those buildings using a suspended platform. Those are swing stages, a common tool used in commercial painting.
More specifically, swing stages are platforms suspended by ropes or cables connected to stirrups located at each end. Safety beams and canter weights are used to suspend the swing stage from the roof, and the platform is then raised and lowered using electric hoist motors. Its primary function is to transport workers, their tools, and their safety equipment to an appropriate height to complete a task.
What Are Swing Stages Used For?
Swing stages are the most common type of suspended scaffolding for many reasons, including their versatility. They can be installed, dismantled, and relocated to new jobs very easily, and they have a user-friendly operating system. Swing stages are useful for reaching areas that are inaccessible to other types of scaffolding, man lifts, or boom lifts. That’s why they’re commonly seen being used by window washers or painters on high buildings. Though they might look precarious, swing stages are perfectly safe when used correctly by experienced painters.
